Hazardous Tree Remediation
Not every tree is perfect. Branches or whole trees may become hazardous, whether the cause is genetic or the result of neglect and/or abuse in the past. When hazards exist, it is often possible to reduce the risks through the installation of supportive cables and/or braces, allowing otherwise dangerous trees to be appreciated enjoyed for many more years.

REASON FOR CABLING AND BRACING
- Large, co-dominant or multiple stems that increase potential for failure and splitting of the tree
- Failure of opposing limbs that leads to an imbalance in tree's crown/canopy
- Support of large, heavy limbs to two or more other limbs
- To limit the movement of specified limbs
- Tight, vee-shaped crotches that are weakly attached because of included bark
SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER
Hazardous trees cannot be made safe by the use of cables or braces, thus the situation must be carefully assessed when deciding to install supplemental support systems.
- Any time hardware is installed in a tree; there will be wounding and the risk of decay.
If a system is installed provisions should be made for future inspections and maintenance.
Before installing cables or braces, the tree should be properly pruned to remove hazardous limbs and to reduce the weight of the limbs requiring support.
